Mission Call Results

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

We opened Jake’s mission call on Thursday afternoon and he is going to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  He reports to the Brazil MTC on September 1, 2010.  We are all so excited for him. We know that is where the Lord wants him to go and that he will be an amazing missionary.

Thank you to everyone who participated in guessing where his mission call would be.  We had a fun time talking about everyone’s guesses and thinking about where he could go.  But enough about that, it is time to announce the winner.  Erik Hulme (my brother-in law) won with a guess of Cordoba Argentina.  The distance between Cordoba and Rio de Janeiro according to Google Maps is 2760 km a 1 day and 9 hour drive.  That is a drive I definitely don’t want to make, and luckily we don’t have to!  We will be sending Erik two movie tickets so he and my little sister can go on a date!  Congratulations Erik.

Feel free to leave comment with advice or congratualations for Jake here on the blog and we will be sure that he receives them.

Mission Call Predictions

Mission Call

Mission Call

My little brother Jake  just received his mission call but we will not be opening it until Thursday since we will all be together for my little sisters graduation.  So the speculation begins.

Please leave a comment with your prediction. You may guess one foreign mission and one domestic if you’d like, per Jake.

There are two prizes up for grabs.  The winner can choose the prize they would like from:

  • Two movie passes to AMC Theatres
  • Two Dallas Symphony Orchestra tickets to Franck’s Symphony in D Minor on May 1 2010 at 8:00PM

The winner will  be determined by distance to actual mission in miles.

What are you waiting for?  Go leave a comment with your prediction, a free date awaits!!

If you need ideas, this document has all of the missions listed: List of LDS Missions

March of Dimes

March of Dimes

March of Dimes

On Saturday we participated in the Dallas March of Dimes March for Babies walk.  The walk was a five mile loop by White Rock Lake.  My company was one of the sponsors for the  walk so I signed up to participate.  We thought it would be fun and a good warm up for our Europe trip next week since we will be doing a lot of walking while we are there.

We showed up at the park and ride facility to be bussed into the walk and it was a bit of a fiasco.  There were tons of people all waiting for the shuttle buses. When we finally arrived at the walk there were thousands of people.  I wanted to wait and go walking with the people from my company but we were standing at the starting line and as I looked back I couldn’t see the end of the line.  So we went ahead and knew we would have fun on our own.  It was inspiring to us how many people were willing to give up a Saturday morning to raise awareness and money for research to help premature babies.

As we started walking we quickly noticed that there were too many people for the roads and it was crazy crowded.  Addie just wanted to get out and walk around, but would have been trampled, so she was fussy.  There were a few times when we wanted to just turn around and head back home but we stayed with it.  We took breaks, let Addie run around, gave her snacks, and walked really fast so we could speed up the process.  At the end we felt good for staying to the task and getting it all done.  Here are some photos from our day.

Wildflowers/children

Our poor child. She is our one and only. And we love to take pictures. So she is often coerced into sitting/standing/posing/doing something funny over and over just so we can get a great picture of it. On a related note, we live in Texas, where the Bluebonnets bloom in abundance in April. They are only in bloom for a few weeks, so we rush out to the country, hoping to get a great picture in a blooming field of bluebonnets.

Try #1 was last week, and we didn’t really get any great pictures. Addie was not in the best mood, and wasn’t very patient with being set in a big patch of flowers and told to sit there.

She was more interested in looking for cows. She saw her first real cows on this trip, and she LOVED them.

An attempt at a family picture. It was a little windy.

She was pretty much done by about the 3rd picture, but of course we kept trying.

We tried again last night with her cousins, Austin and Caleb, at a park 5 minutes from our house. She was in a considerably better mood, especially since she had some friends to play with. We got some cute ones!
