Snowpocalypse 2011

So last week we were snowed in. Now for those of you from the up north, you might not think we got enough snow to constitute shutting down the city but those of us from the South know that ice is worse than snow any day. Last Tuesday we woke up to a few inches of ice. Now we get ice a few times a winter but usually it gets warm and melts in a few hours, but not this time. The temperature didn’t get above freezing until Friday so the ice stayed and didn’t melt. My office was closed twice during the week and school was cancelled the whole week so everyone was locked inside their house. Then on Friday it snowed about 4-5 inches on top of the ice. Luckily it got up into the 50′s on Saturday so everything melted, and everyone escaped their houses since we all had cabin fever. Here is what we did this week to pass the time.

Since graduating BYU Andrea and I still dream of Tomatillo dressing from Cafe Rio. Every so often we attempt to make our own Cafe Rio salads. In case the photos don’t make you hungry, I’ll just tell you they were amazing!

Andrea and I have been saving for months to buy a new camera lens. I have been lusting over this lens for a few years but never could justify the price. Well we saved our pennies and dimes and due to my snowed in craziness I finally bought the lens. It arrived on Thursday and I was so excited.

We tried to potty train Addie this week and we’ll spare you any photos from that event, but in summation it was an epic fail. On Friday when we got some real snow we took Addie out to play in it. We got her all bundled up and ready to play. As soon as we got outside I showed her how to make a snowball and how to throw it and she got it. She started making snowballs and throwing them at mom. It was awesome. Also as one would expect from Addie, she spent the whole time running around.

Addie also took some time to jump in the melting snow. We got a few photos of her jumping and they turned out cute. She is so active, but after a week in the house, who wouldn’t be?

We also baked some Cinnamon Rolls. We took photos of the process but since they were so good we ate them all before we remembered to take photos of the final product. Sorry you’ll have to use your imagination…

Addie looked so cute on her way to church we couldn’t help but take a photo. She is getting so big.

As you can see we had a good week, eventhough we were snowed in. Thankfully, we are all thawed out now and we are getting ready to go to Hawaii. We leave this week. Yippie!

Eating Time

Adelyn Eating Rice Cereal

Adelyn Eating Rice Cereal

Adelyn is now eating rice cereal. Well that is not entirely true, we are feeding her rice cereal but we don’t know if she actually eats any of it. Today Andrea went to my little sister’s bridal shower and left Adelyn and me at home. I got to feed the baby but she didn’t want to eat the formula I had for her so I had to try the rice cereal. The problem is I mixed the rice cereal with the formula she didn’t want and she figured it out so she only ate for a few minutes. But once she was done “eating” I took advantage of the opportunity and shot some pictures of her. One of the funniest things about Adelyn is she has a stuffed monkey that can get her to laugh all the time. So I held the monkey and shot photos of our messy faced baby. Hopefully she will start eating the cereal soon but even if more comes out of her mouth than goes in, she is so cute!

Tim Tam Slam

Tim Tams

For a short period of time, Target is carrying a brand of cookie that almost fully defines my college experience. They are called Tim Tams, and are sold only in Australia. My friend Nicole, who is half Aussie, introduced these cookies to me freshman year of college. Together with my cocoamotion, we enjoyed Tim Tam Slams, which are only the most delicious way to enjoy these cookies. A new friendship and a new obsession were born simultaneously. Because we are not able to buy these cookies in the states, we had to come up with alternative cookies to try Slams with (chocolate covered Oreos and Keebler Grasshoppers work well). However, Target has made these little beauties available for a LIMITED time. I think until March. I have bought 3 boxes already, and am fighting the urge to buy more. Please, visit the cookie aisle at Target and try these for yourselves (they are packaged in a white Pepperidge Farms package, not the original brown Arnott’s kind)
